EU RESEARCH PROJECT

Industry Resilience for Resilient Europe

European research project on an intelligent utilization of possessed production capacity and new manufacturing cooperation models.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Emerging model of manufacturing cooperation

The global upheavals of recent years, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine, have exposed the vulnerabilities of global value chains and underscored the importance of resilience.

A new model of manufacturing cooperation is emerging in the industry. Producers and suppliers are increasingly joining forces to maximize the use of spare production capacity. This collaborative approach enhances resilience by diversifying supply sources and reduces waste by optimizing resource use. More importantly, it drives the industry towards new business opportunities.

Imagine a future where a producer, inspired by a novel design concept or a breakthrough material, could quickly partner with a supplier with spare capacity to bring this idea to life. Or where suppliers could proactively propose innovative designs or materials to producers, confident in their ability to deliver. This is the future of smart utilization of the possessed production capacity.

To explore these possibilities, we are conducting a research study. Obtained insights will shed light on how global turbulence has shaped manufacturing and sourcing resilience approaches in the industry, exploring the opportunities and challenges associated with the new model of manufacturing cooperation.

WHY THIS SECTOR?

EU Panel Door Sector

The research project aims to embrace different industrial sectors in which innovation can go hand in hand with enhanced resilience.

Our first choice is the panel door sector, for several reasons. The European garage doors market is expected to reach USD 2.87 billion by 2026, growing at a CAGR of 3.68% (Arizton, 2023). This industry has also seen significant advancements in recent years, with new materials, enhanced safety features, and smart technologies. Not least, despite disruptions to supply chains and manufacturing processes amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, the industry has been able to adapt and continue to meet demand.

WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN?

Securing Access to Expert Insights

The research conducted by our team of scholars will provide valuable insights into how spare capacity can be transformed into enhanced resilience and how it can be smartly used to increase the company's innovativeness to keep up to date with the state-of-the-art technological developments in the sector.

All study participants and interested stakeholders will receive the report with our findings.
